Certified sheep’s wool is subject to the recognised Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). RWS farmers and livestock breeders are assessed against the requirements set out in the standard relating to animal welfare, land management and social aspects. The mulesing of lambs is expressly prohibited.
Recycled sheep’s wool is certified to the GRS or RCS standard. These standards verify that the material is recycled pre- or post-consumer material. This means that both industrial waste and used materials are processed into new fibres. Recycled fibres therefore contribute to the circular economy by making existing resources usable again. Recycled wool is labelled as ‘recycled’ on the care label and in the Online Shop: Wool (recycled)

Leather from LWG-certified tanneries is processed in tanneries that have been assessed according to defined environmental standards. These include, amongst other things, requirements relating to the management of chemicals, waste water and energy in the tanning process.

Certified down is subject to the recognised Responsible Down Standard (RDS). This certification focuses on the welfare of ducks and geese – with clear criteria for species-appropriate husbandry and the respectful treatment of the animals. Live plucking and rearing for foie gras production are expressly prohibited. Marc Cain has been certified as a Responsible Down Standard (RDS) brand since the Fall/Winter 2026 Collection. All the down and feathers we use as filling material comply with this standard. This is indicated directly on our hangtag.
