With this impressive Marc Cain campus, architecture fan Helmut Schlotterer has fulfilled a dream. At first glance, the building complex looks like something from another world, reminiscent of a white spaceship that has landed on a green meadow at the foot of the Swabian Alb. This futuristic, spacey look has an innovative character and perfectly reflects the visionary ideas of the company's founder and owner Helmut Schlotterer.
In fact, the buildings are inspired by the architecture of the well-known architect Richard Meier and were constructed with a lot of design-oriented materials such as glass and aluminium. Even from the outside, everything appears open, spacious and flooded with light. This is also the case inside, where the interior design is dominated by the colour white - from the office equipment to the fire extinguisher.

The outdoor area radiates peace and serenity. Water lily ponds invite you to linger and relax, as do the two large sun terraces, which are popular on warmer days.

Sustainability also played a major role in the construction. A heat recovery system, for example, ensures that less heating is needed, and a photovoltaic system and a rainwater cistern can save electricity and water.

EQUIPMENT
After the actual textile production, the fabric is finished or refined. The aim of the finishing is not only to realise certain optical and haptic effects, but also to improve the quality and material properties. Finishing at Marc Cain is not finishing in the conventional sense. The individual processes are less automated and the focus is on manual processing, which means that each item is handled up to about 90 times. The type of finishing depends on the type of fabric and on which machine the item was made. The finishing process is extremely extensive and time-consuming. Every single article goes through a finishing programme that is specially tailored to it and varies in terms of duration and scope. In addition, each individual stage also includes its own inspection process, during which the goods are closely examined for any defects. This is the only way to guarantee the consistently high quality of our products.

SEWING ROOM
In our 1,300 sqm sewing room, approx. 440 prototypes are produced each season according to the ideas of our design team and approx. 10,200 sample pieces are prepared, i.e. checked for quality and ironed on. Individual pieces for fashion shows and photo shoots are also sewn/manufactured here by our total of 30 employees. In order to meet our high quality standards, Marc Cain is constantly investing in fully equipped machinery with the latest cutting, sewing and ironing technologies. From a modern cutter in the cutting room to standard machines for closing seams and special machines, especially in the area of stitching, everything is available to map out a complete manufacturing process for the products. Currently, the sewing room has over 90 machines.

LOGISTICS
Technology and innovation are at the top of our agenda. Our new design-oriented logistics centre with numerous glass elements, which was put into operation in August 2015, is located directly next to the main building. The centrepiece is the automated warehouse, which is equipped with the latest logistical achievements. With 4 aisles over 35 storage levels, the shuttle warehouse offers a capacity of 85,000 storage spaces or 1.4 million recumbent items. The static hanging goods warehouse with its 5 storage levels offers a capacity of 460,000 hanging parts. In total, the building measures approx. 100 by 74 m, is 18 metres high and has a floor space of 7,000 sqm, which is roughly the size of a football field. In addition to the shuttle warehouse, the four-storey functional building also offers space for offices, storage, technology, packaging, quality assurance and returns.
