Flax grown in Europe is cultivated without the use of genetically modified seeds. Furthermore, flax generally requires very little additional irrigation, as it grows mainly on rainwater. Moreover, its geographical origin enables transparent supply chains within Europe. Flax grown in Europe is certified under the EUROPEAN FLAX Standard (now: Masters of FLAX FIBRE™).

THE COTTON ALTERNATIVES WE USE
Organic cotton from certified organic cultivation is grown without the use of genetically modified seeds or synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, and is certified to the GOTS or OCS standard. Organic cotton is labelled with the suffix ‘organic’ in the Care Label and Online Shop: Cotton (organic) / Organic cotton
Cotton from regenerative agriculture is certified to the regenagri standard. This agricultural approach focuses on maintaining and restoring soil health. It involves, for example, reduced tillage and the avoidance of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides. Cotton grown using regenerative farming methods is labelled with the term ‘regenerative’ in the Carelabel and Online Shop, e.g. cotton (regenerative)
Recycled cotton is certified to the GRS or RCS standard. These standards verify that the material is recycled pre-consumer or post-consumer material. This means that both industrial waste and used materials are processed into new fibres. Recycled fibres therefore contribute to the circular economy by making existing resources usable again. Recycled cotton is labelled as ‘recycled’ on the care label and in the Online Shop: Cotton (recycled)
We regard Better Cotton as a more sustainable alternative to conventional cotton, as farmers are trained to use water efficiently, reduce the use of growth-promoting substances, and respect biodiversity, soil health and the well-being of workers. However, the use of Better Cotton is not labelled on our products, as the mass balance approach means the cotton cannot be physically traced back to the end product.
