High-quality materials and high quality standards are also typical of Marc Cain’s Rethink philosophy. For example, the outer material of the on-trend denim is sourced from an Italian denim specialist and all the garments are produced in Europe. Sustainability is at the forefront – especially for cotton, which remains the most commonly used fibre for outer fabrics. It has been 50 percent sustainably produced since 2022 – a goal that Marc Cain set itself for 2023 and has proudly checked off one year early. The next stage of the plan is to increase the sustainable cotton content to 100 percent by 2025, an important step that the label is pursuing with characteristic determination.

This will involve increasing its use of cotton from regenerative agriculture, which places a particular emphasis on soil fertility. To achieve this goal, a combination of ideas from traditional and ecological agriculture come into play – such as the use of lighter agricultural machinery, which causes less compacting of the soil and thus improves water and air permeability. Another example is intercropping with different plants, which help naturally fertilise the soil. These measures promote nutrient-rich, healthier soil – resulting in healthier crops and more beautiful cotton.
