The adventure begins!

That’s what we tell ourselves when exploring unfamiliar terrain: while travelling, at work, and even in everyday life – because adventures don’t have to be big or extraordinary. They are the new things that await us. Adventure means daring to do something different, leaving your comfort zone and pushing yourself to new limits. Being a little bit crazy and curious about what’s to come. So that in the end, you can look back on all you have experienced and find unbridled joy in it.

Give up? Never! That is the motto of Brazilian big-wave surfer Maya Gabeira. In 2013, she experienced a major scare: she was overcome by a huge wave and had to be resuscitated. Then, in 2020, she triumphed: she rode a 22.40 metre high wave – a world record.

German freediver Jennifer Wendland dove to an incredible depth of 117 metres on a single breath. The descent and reascent took about three minutes. “You learn a lot about yourself down there. It’s a wonderful journey of discovery,” she says.

Despite being paralysed from the chest down, British athlete Karen Darke climbed the Matterhorn and is a paratriathlon world champion. She says: “Ability is a state of mind, not a state of body.”
